How You Can Help
A Special Appeal
Dear Friends & Allies,
Please join us in a groundbreaking fight for poverty elimination and economic human rights.
WEAP is raising funds and mobilizing support for the first ever World Courts of Women on Poverty in the U.S.
Since 1992, 38 various Courts of Women have fought for human rights and anti-violence against women in countries ranging from Africa to China to Nepal. Each court convenes a jury of wise women and men to hear testimonies of injustice. The testimony and judgments that emerge from the Courts of Women become a valuable resource in campaigns against violence in all its forms, against militarization and against the feminization of poverty. We are asking you to join us in raising $50,000 to support a similar campaign in California.
The $50,000 will support our California “Poor People’s Economic Human Right Campaign” (PPEHRC), in its early planning and mobilizing for the first World Courts of Women on Poverty in the US. WEAP is playing a leadership role in the design, mobilization, & implementation of four regional World Courts of Women proposed for the US. Oakland, California is the designated hub and for the Western region and would be the first of four regional courts to spotlight women’s rights and poverty elimination. You can find more information on the WEAP website in the following links, Bringing the fight for Economic Human Rights to Detroit and Beyond, World Court of Women - PMA , and a contribution from one of our Welfare Rights Allies.
This is a critical, exciting, grassroots, working class, women-led initiative, built on decades of anti-poverty, women’s rights and workers’ rights efforts all across the nation. We urge you to join us and 35 other partnering organizations around the country as we work with low-income women to change societal and governmental policies that most affect the lives of poor people. To make your tax deductible donation simply write a check to Women's Economic Agenda Project or go to the WEAP- Donate page and select our donate button to contribute through PayPal. You can visit (webpage) to learn about different donor levels.
